Mine Warfare Association Regional Meeting, Albuquerque

The Mine Warfare Association, MINWARA, announces its Albuquerque, New
Mexico, Regional Meeting, July 16-18, 1998, at the Albuquerque Ramada
Inn. Co-host for this Meeting is the Sandia National
Laboratory. Registration and other information can be obtained from
the Western Office of the Mine Warfare Association c/o Destination
Monterey Carmel, 824 Munras St., Monterey, CA 93940(Attn: Carol or by
e-mail:carol@dmc2000.com; tel (408)373-0508.

The registration fee for this meeting has not been set as of March 1,
1998.

This announcement also constitutes a Call for Papers. Focus at this
meeting will be on Unexploded Ordnance (UXO), Countering Landmines,
and Humanitarian Demining; however papers on naval mine
countermeasures technology and applications will be welcome.

Relevant topics that might be considered are:

Area Surveillance and Reconnaissance Techniques
Fusion of Sensor Information
Autonomous Systems
Sensor Technology
Biologically-based Countermine Systems
Modeling and Simulation
Economics of Humanitarian Demining
Availability of Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) Systems
Foams and Fire-retardants
Specific Approaches to Solving the "False Target" Problems

Investigations that are classsified as Basic Research are welcome as
well as are those at the systems application or definition level.

The meeting is UNCLASSIFIED.

Efforts are being made to have a site visit at Sandia National
Laboratory. Although this visit will also be unclasssified, attendees
wishing to take this excursion should provide social security number
when registering.

We hope to attract individuals residing in the Southwest, especially
those in academic research, who may be unable to attend the major
technical symposia in Monterey. Please contact others by word of mouth
